CVSA запланувала Brake Safety Week на 23–29 серпня 2026 року. Окрім звичайних brake checks, інспектори окремо фіксуватимуть стан brake drums і rotors. CVSA попереджає, що тріщини, пошкодження або відсутні частини можуть знизити braking efficiency; уламки також можуть від’єднатися під час руху та створити небезпеку для інших учасників дорожнього руху. До рейсу зверніть увагу на видимі тріщини, забруднення, деформацію, незвичний шум, перегрів або нерівномірне гальмування та негайно повідомте carrier або maintenance department.
Що може призвести до out-of-service order
Brake-related out-of-service criteria можуть охоплювати несправні або неефективні brakes, надмірну кількість defective brakes у combination, air leaks, пошкоджені hoses або tubing, проблеми з steering-axle brakes, low-air warning device та інші critical conditions. CVSA повідомила, що під час неоголошеного Brake Safety Day 2026 інспектори перевірили 4,021 CMV і вивели з експлуатації 574, або 14.3%, через brake-related violations. Brake Safety Week застосовується до CMV і стану обладнання незалежно від громадянства, parole, TPS, visa або типу CDL водія. When and where inspections will occur
CVSA scheduled Brake Safety Week for August 23–29, 2026. During the seven-day period, certified inspectors in the United States, Canada and Mexico will conduct routine roadside inspections with increased attention to brake systems and components on trucks and buses. This does not mean every CMV will be stopped, but carriers and drivers should be prepared for a brake-focused inspection at weigh stations, temporary inspection sites or during a patrol stop.
The 2026 focus is drums and rotors
In addition to normal brake checks, inspectors will separately record the condition of brake drums and rotors. CVSA warns that cracks, damage or missing pieces can reduce braking efficiency, while broken material may detach in transit and endanger other road users. Before operating, watch for visible cracks, contamination, deformation, unusual noise, overheating or uneven braking and report concerns immediately to the carrier or maintenance department.
What may lead to an out-of-service order
Brake-related out-of-service criteria may involve inoperative or ineffective brakes, too many defective brakes in a combination, air leaks, damaged hoses or tubing, steering-axle brake problems, a defective low-air warning device and other critical conditions. CVSA reported that inspectors checked 4,021 CMVs during the unannounced 2026 Brake Safety Day and restricted 574, or 14.3%, from travel for brake-related violations. That figure reflects a separate one-day campaign and is not a forecast for August.
What to check before August 23
The driver must complete a thorough pre-trip inspection and be satisfied that the vehicle is in safe operating condition, as required by 49 CFR 396.13. Check air-pressure build-up, warning devices, parking and service brakes, air leaks, hoses, chambers, slack adjusters, and visible portions of drums or rotors that can be viewed safely. Submit a documented repair request for every defect and do not return the truck to service without confirmation that a critical problem was corrected by qualified personnel.
Practical implications for Ukrainian drivers
Brake Safety Week applies to CMVs and equipment condition regardless of the driver’s citizenship, parole, TPS, visa or CDL type. Ukrainian company drivers should report defects in writing through a DVIR, app or safety channel and retain the carrier’s response. Owner-operators should schedule inspection and repair early rather than waiting until August 22.
