Новий рекорд і актуальна ціна
4 вересня 2026 року середня роздрібна ціна diesel у США досягла $5.8500 за галон за даними AAA. Це перевищило попередній national record $5.8159, зафіксований 19 червня 2022 року. На сторінці AAA, перевіреній 6 вересня, current average вже становив $5.8819; тижнем раніше — $5.6046, місяцем раніше — $5.3622, а роком раніше — $3.7123. Daily average змінюється, тому для settlement або quote слід фіксувати дату та джерело цифри.
Чому AAA та EIA показують різні суми
AAA daily retail average і EIA weekly on-highway diesel benchmark — не одна й та сама series. EIA збирає cash self-service pump prices, включно з taxes, приблизно о 8:00 a.m. local time щопонеділка у sample truck stops і service stations у contiguous United States та публікує volume-weighted estimate. Останнє доступне EIA значення за 31 серпня — $5.599 за галон; наступний release заплановано на 9 вересня. Різниця з AAA не є помилкою: методика, geography, timing і weighting відрізняються.
Що це означає у cost per mile
Для truck, який у середньому дає 7 mpg, ціна AAA $5.8819 означає приблизно $0.84 fuel cost на одну driven mile до discount, DEF та idling. За year-ago AAA price $3.7123 той самий розрахунок давав близько $0.53 за милю. Різниця — майже $0.31 за милю, або приблизно $310 на кожні 1,000 miles. Fuel surcharge не завжди покриває стрибок одразу
Fuel surcharge залежить від written contract або rate confirmation: важливі benchmark, base price, adjustment interval, loaded miles versus all miles і затримка між publication та payment. Навіть якщо формула використовує EIA, weekly benchmark може відставати від daily pump movement. Перед прийняттям load порівняйте all-in revenue з поточною fuel cost, tolls, deadhead та іншим variable cost; не припускайте, що surcharge автоматично або повністю переходить leased owner-operator.
Практичні кроки для українських водіїв
Українським owner-operators і малим carriers варто оновити cost-per-mile worksheet перед новими quotes, перевірити fuel-card net price, planned fuel stops, surcharge clause та settlement deductions, а також зберігати gallons і receipts для IFTA records. Company driver має уточнити лише ті deductions або reimbursement rules, які прямо передбачені договором. Зростання diesel price саме по собі не змінює CDL validity, medical status, U4U parole, TPS, EAD, work authorization або eligibility for a domiciled чи non-domiciled CDL.

The new record and current price
On September 4, 2026, the U.S. average retail diesel price reached $5.8500 per gallon, according to AAA. That exceeded the previous national record of $5.8159 set on June 19, 2022. On the AAA page checked September 6, the current average had risen to $5.8819; it was $5.6046 one week earlier, $5.3622 one month earlier and $3.7123 one year earlier. The daily average changes, so a settlement or rate quote should identify both the date and the source of the figure.
Why AAA and EIA show different numbers
The AAA daily retail average and the EIA weekly on-highway diesel benchmark are not the same series. EIA collects cash self-service pump prices, including taxes, at about 8:00 a.m. local time each Monday from a sample of truck stops and service stations in the contiguous United States, then publishes a volume-weighted estimate. The latest available EIA value for August 31 is $5.599 per gallon; the next release is scheduled for September 9. A difference from AAA is not an error: the methodology, geography, timing and weighting differ.
What this means for cost per mile
For a truck averaging 7 mpg, the AAA price of $5.8819 represents about $0.84 in fuel cost for each driven mile before discounts, DEF and idling. At the year-ago AAA price of $3.7123, the same calculation was about $0.53 per mile. The difference is nearly $0.31 per mile, or about $310 per 1,000 miles. The actual figure should use the operator’s own mpg, paid gallons, deadhead, reefer use, fuel-card discount and route-specific prices.
A fuel surcharge may not cover the jump immediately
A fuel surcharge depends on the written contract or rate confirmation, including the benchmark, base price, adjustment interval, loaded miles versus all miles, and the lag between publication and payment. Even when a formula uses EIA, a weekly benchmark may trail daily pump movements. Before accepting a load, compare all-in revenue with current fuel cost, tolls, deadhead and other variable costs; do not assume that a surcharge automatically or fully passes through to a leased owner-operator.
Practical steps for Ukrainian drivers
Ukrainian owner-operators and small carriers should update their cost-per-mile worksheet before new quotes, check the fuel-card net price, planned fuel stops, surcharge clause and settlement deductions, and retain gallons and receipts for IFTA records. A company driver should verify only those deductions or reimbursement rules expressly stated in the agreement. The higher diesel price does not itself change CDL validity, medical status, Uniting for Ukraine parole, TPS, an EAD, work authorization, or eligibility for a domiciled or non-domiciled CDL.
