In an August 6 notice, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety says selected Driver Exam Stations will operate from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Aberdeen, Brookings, Huron, Pierre, Rapid City and Sioux Falls One-Stop are open August 8, 15 and 22; Watertown is open August 8 and 22. Who is affected

Because the official sources differ by one day, CDL UA recommends not relying on the later date and completing every step by August 28. A separate enforcement delay through January 1, 2027, applies only to drivers who have already completed and passed the DOT physical, can show a copy, and could not finish the licensing update; it is not a universal extension for drivers who have not obtained the medical examination.
What a driver should do
First determine the correct self-certification category: NI for non-excepted interstate, EI for qualified excepted interstate, or NA for non-excepted intrastate. When a medical certificate is required, select an examiner from the FMCSA National Registry; South Dakota says the examiner submits the result electronically to Driver Licensing. Moving from a K restriction to interstate status may require an in-person visit, application, residency documents, a fee and a new CDL. A driver who remains NA intrastate submits an updated self-certification form under the official guidance and may retain the K restriction.
