Motus phishing

У верхній частині official Fraud Alerts page FMCSA розмістила нове попередження “Bogus Motus App and Links”. За даними agency, carriers отримують emails із темою “Notice of Required Off-Cycle Update- Motus email” і пропозицією відкрити “New MOTUS Portal”.

FMCSA прямо називає чотири bogus addresses: dot.motusdatasboard.com, dot.motusdatadesk.com, dot.motuswebdeck.com і dot.motusfunction.com.

FMCSA радить звернутися до Contact Center за 1-800-832-5660 або через Ask FMCSA; scam також можна подати до FTC, FBI IC3, local police або state attorney general.

Fraud alert не створює новий off-cycle update requirement, не деактивує USDOT Number і не змінює CDL, non-domiciled eligibility, immigration status або work authorization.

IN ENGLISH

September 15 update: what the Motus phishing attempt looks like

FMCSA placed a new “Bogus Motus App and Links” warning at the top of its official Fraud Alerts page. According to the agency, carriers are receiving emails with the subject “Notice of Required Off-Cycle Update- Motus email” and an invitation to open a “New MOTUS Portal.” Capital letters, a logo or a reference to a USDOT Number do not establish that the message is genuine.

Four bogus domains

FMCSA specifically identifies four bogus addresses: dot.motusdatasboard.com, dot.motusdatadesk.com, dot.motuswebdeck.com and dot.motusfunction.com. Do not open them or enter login, identity, registration, payment or banking data. Note that the first domain uses the word “datasboard,” not “dashboard”; inspect the address character by character.

The official Motus address

The legitimate Motus application operates at https://motus.dot.gov/. The safer practice is to type that address independently or reach it through the official fmcsa.dot.gov Registration page instead of following an email link. Motus is a name, not an acronym, so FMCSA separately warns about “MOTUS” branding in bogus messages. A .gov domain matters, but inspect the complete address before the first slash.

What to do after clicking or sharing information

Stop interacting with the site. Preserve the email headers, screenshots, URL, date and a description of information disclosed; immediately change a compromised password from a clean device, enable multi-factor authentication, and contact the bank or payment provider if financial information was exposed. FMCSA directs targets to its Contact Center at 1-800-832-5660 or Ask FMCSA; the scam may also be reported to the FTC, FBI IC3, local police or a state attorney general. Do not delete evidence before consulting the appropriate service.

What the warning does not change

The fraud alert does not create a new off-cycle update requirement, deactivate a USDOT Number or change a CDL, non-domiciled eligibility, immigration status or work authorization. If an email claims the account will be suspended immediately, verify the current public record and notices only through official channels. FMCSA’s separate temporary relief concerning biennial updates has its own terms and does not validate any email.

Practical implications for Ukrainian owner-operators

Ukrainian drivers and carrier owners may be especially vulnerable to urgent English-language compliance messages. Do not provide a passport, I-94, EAD, CDL image, EIN, bank details or Motus credentials through an email link. Designate one responsible person for registration messages, retain official filing receipts, and verify unfamiliar demands through motus.dot.gov or the FMCSA Contact Center. Use an interpreter when needed, but do not share passwords or one-time security codes.
