Офіційний release Washington State Patrol від 1 жовтня повідомляє про шість “Fatigued Driving” emphasis patrols на Interstate 5 у Thurston County — між mileposts 100 і 111.

HOS rule

Перед рейсом перевірте available driving time і required rest, ELD status та supporting documents, CDL і endorsements, medical certification, annual inspection, lights, tires, brakes, cargo securement, registration та insurance.

Це не legal, immigration, medical чи individualized compliance advice; перед важливим рішенням перевірте WSP, FMCSA, carrier policy та правила licensing state.

IN ENGLISH

Where and when the patrols will occur

An official Washington State Patrol release dated October 1 announces six “Fatigued Driving” emphasis patrols on Interstate 5 in Thurston County between mileposts 100 and 111. The first operation occurred on October 7. The remaining operations are scheduled for October 22, November 3 and 24, and December 2 and 15, 2026. This is a published targeted-enforcement schedule, not an I-5 closure or a ban on commercial vehicles.

What officers will check

WSP troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers will focus on CMV operators who may be driving while fatigued. The agency also states that officers will look for other moving and equipment violations during the patrols. A stop may therefore involve driver conduct, HOS or ELD records, and the condition of the truck or trailer; the official release does not limit an inspection to a single fatigue question.

This is not a new HOS rule

The campaign does not create new federal driving limits or change CDL, medical-certification or immigration eligibility. Existing 49 CFR 392.3 already prohibits a driver from operating—and a carrier from requiring or permitting operation—when fatigue, illness or another cause reduces alertness enough to make starting or continuing unsafe. Separately, 49 CFR 395.3 sets HOS limits for property-carrying CMVs. A formally compliant logbook does not make unsafe fatigued driving permissible.

Practical checklist before I-5

Before the trip, verify available driving time and required rest, ELD status and supporting documents, CDL and endorsements, medical certification, annual inspection, lights, tires, brakes, cargo securement, registration and insurance. If frequent yawning, lane drift, missed signs or concentration problems appear, do not try to “push through” to the destination: notify dispatch, locate lawful safe parking and rest. Retain messages documenting fatigue and the resulting trip-plan change.

What this means for Ukrainian and immigrant drivers

WSP describes a commercial-driver safety operation that applies regardless of citizenship or the language spoken at home. The announcement does not create an immigration checkpoint or change non-domiciled CDL rules, but a roadside contact can reveal separate issues involving the license, medical qualification, HOS, vehicle or other records. Keep documents current, answer safety questions briefly and truthfully in English, and do not assume that an EAD, TPS or Uniting for Ukraine parole automatically establishes CDL eligibility.

What to do after a citation or out-of-service order

Follow lawful instructions, do not continue driving in violation of an out-of-service order, and request a complete copy of the inspection report. Record the time, location, officer or inspection number, and send the documents to the carrier’s safety team. If the record contains a factual error, review the DataQs process; DataQs does not replace a court hearing, state appeal or legal advice, and it is not a way to challenge the existence of a law.
